John Grillo

The Birth of Abstract Expressionism
March 1, 2012 ~ May 6, 2012

12 to 5pm, Thursday through Sunday

John Grillo is considered “one of the most influential painters of San Francisco’s School of Abstract Expressionism.”  His father painted and sculpted, inspiring him at a young age to paint portraits, landscapes and life scenes during World War II.  After the war, Grillo found inspiration from Miro, Henry Moore, Mark Rothko, Picasso, and Motherway which led to his spontaneous abstractions and dazzling action paintings.  Grillo’s work can be found at such prestigious institutions as The British Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.  arte italia is proud to exhibit this fine collection, spanning more than three decades.
